Prayer for the Evening

(for those who have not taken part in
the Evening Mass of the Lord’s Supper)

Taste and see how good the Lord is:/
come, let us adore! (cf. Ps 34:9)

Glory to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning,
is now, and will be for ever. Amen.

When pow’rs of earth and hell arose
Against the Son of God’s delight
And friends betrayed him to his foes.

Before the mournful scene began,

The Lord’s gift of himself on the cross, made present in the Eucharist, is the foundation for every act of charity, symbolized in the washing of the feet.

O praise the Lord, Jerusalem!
Zion, praise your God!

He has strengthened the bars of your gates,
he has blessed the children within you.
He established peace on your borders,
he feeds you with finest wheat.

He sends out his word to the earth

I received from the Lord what I also handed on to you, that the Lord Jesus, on the night he was handed over, took bread, and after he had given thanks, broke it and said, “This is my body that is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way also the cup, after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.” For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the death of the Lord until he comes.
